We are guided by the ecological and global imperative.
Cooperation with the Global South is an imperative of humanity.
We are guided by the ecological and global imperative.
“Our freedom to choose any lifestyle ends where our way of life restricts the freedom of other people to lead a decent life.”
Global categorical imperative
“Act so that the effects of your action are compatible with the permanence of real human life on earth.”
Ecological imperative
In 2016, FvAG students dealt with the Rana Plaza disaster in Dhaka, the greatest human tragedy in the textile industry. The death of over 1200 people from the pressures of fast fashion touched us all deeply.
In particular, the picture “The Last Hug” by Taslima Akhter was one of the reasons why we dealt with “sustainable consumption”.
We contacted the photographer and activist and invited her to Germany. We organized lectures with her in several schools in southern Germany.
A portion of our profit from the sale of our sustainable t-shirts goes to the Taslima Akhter union to support union work.
In 2018 we visited Bangladesh with a team and also made contact with the Amanda Pathasala slum school in Dhaka. We have been promoting them ever since.
At the 2019 Youth Summit, we learned about the work of 2aid.org. This NGO is committed to a sustainable water supply in Uganda and Nepal.
We were so impressed by the concept and commitment that we donated a water reservoir to St. Augstine School. On World Water Day, March 22, 2021, we implemented an action at our school to address the global water problem.
For many years, the Friedrich-von-Alberti-Gymnasium has supported the Maison Shalom, an NGO that was founded after the turmoil of the Genozoid in Burundi. The founder Marguerite Barankitse and her team are committed to peaceful coexistence between the different ethnic groups. After 2015, the organization had to leave Burundi due to renewed civil war-like conditions and they relocated their headquarters to Rwanda.
The main work is the commitment in the Mahama Camp in southern Rwanda. The aim here is to create a dignified life for Burundian refugees, but also for refugees from other nations.
In the more than 15 years of cooperation with Maison Shalom, we have been able to support this NGO through a variety of activities (Africa Day, charity runs, support for start-ups, sending relief supplies). During a trip to Rwanda in 2019, we got a concrete picture of the work of Maison Shalom.
